Biography

Catherine C. Brooks
Author and Former Business Woman

Catherine C. Brooks, a native of Mathews County, Virginia, began her writing career after retiring from owning and managing “The Craftsman Shop.” Even during these years,
she found release in writing and published pieces locally. She didn’t
close the store until 25 years after her husband’s fatal accident.

Catherine completed two courses in the writing field in the 1970s.
Attending a week long Christian Writer’s Seminar in Black Mountain,
North Carolina, had a great influence on her future in that field.
After 2000, she completed a three year course under the
“Christian Writer’s Guild.” Her instructor guided her through many
magazine articles and part of her first book.

Catherine writes history and memoirs in story form—like she would
tell them to her grandchildren. She published Walk with Me in 2005
after three years of research. Didn’t Know We Were Poor came from
the publisher just before Mathews Market Days in 2007.
War Brought Trials and Anxieties at Home and Overseas was available
in September 2009. She is currently working on the sequel to the World War II book and a photo book.

By early fall, War Brought Trials and Anxieties at Home and Overseas will be available in an eBook from www.buybooksontheweb.com

Catherine enjoys the people with whom she renews acquaintances at book signings, and also the new folk that she meets. It isn’t unusual for her to receive a phone call from someone the age of her children to learn about life in the 1930s, or who owned a particular house.
